If someone visit Sikkim and misses to go for trekking among its challenging foothills, then he must be missing a major attraction of the state. In high altitudes where yaks graze are found the snow leopard, the blue sheep, goral, tahr and the red panda the state animal of Sikkim.

The well-known trekking routes are Nayan Bazar- Pemayangtse-Yaksum-Dzongri or Rangpo-Gangtok-Yaksum-Dzongri. In Sikkim trekking is allowed by the Indian Tourist development Corporation and a liason officer or guide provided by the government of Sikkim.
